are a north london based
musical and creative collective.
our live set fuses a ruthless mix of
dirty
dub, urban funk,
psychedlia and live drum n bass.
history of
om
the original line-up was formed by wah officer g and dubmeister j, whilst studying design in 1992. the colonel and dredmaster jes, who also work as visual artists, joined about a year later, adding their influences, and projecting the band into the contemporary dance music scene.
as well as playing at venues such as the
blue note - supporting the egg - jazz
café, middlesex and north london
universities, dublin castle,
waterrats, and other well known venues (see the gigs history), the
band have also organized collaborative gigs with guest bands, DJs and
visuals.

resisting the use of drum machines or sequencers, the band has recreated the sequence based dance grooves live, using traditional instruments (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and trumpet)
musical influences are very diverse (from soft machine to miles davis; from lee scratch perry to parliament; from jimi hendrix to 4 hero). we are also encouraged by artists such as roni size, red snapper, and the egg, who are performing their music at dance venues. you can read the reaction from the press to previous demos here.
the latest demo cd (listen) marks a new departure,
as we use a sequencer and sampler to create songs that once only existed
as live performances.
